My PROGRAM

Uplevel Your Governance & Leadership Capability

Are you a not-for-profit Board Chair, looking for that trusted someone to help you to navigate
the challenges of leading your Board?
Then look no further, and let me support you to find your way through the maze
and lead with greater confidence, clarity and compassion.

I have been fortunate enough to work with Megan for several years, as she has brought constant guidance and astute advisory to a national NFP Board in transition.

Megan has been helpful in not only advising on a strategic transition, but in the carefully developed follow-up tactics and training for the new Board.

As incoming Chair, I have relied on Megan time and time again for her input to keep my focus and priorities in the right places.

I strongly recommend Megan for Board advisory services and Chair support.

Why Choose Chair Support?

Keeping on top of all the elements of contemporary not-for-profit governance and leadership can be demanding, and your personal journey will come with its own specific needs. You might be finding it difficult to get the Board to gel as a team, to find the people you need around the Board table, or to work collaboratively and effectively with the CEO. If you need someone independent who you can rely on 100%, with no competing loyalties, that’s where I and my Chair Support Program come into play.

FAQS

Frequently Asked Questions

What does a Board Chair do?

The Board Chair leads the Board and ensures it operates effectively, focusing on governance, strategy, and oversight.
They generally chair Board meetings, guide decision-making, and help the Board work together towards the organisation’s goals.
They also act as the key link between the Board and the CEO, providing support, accountability, and leadership.

What are the responsibilities of the CEO?

The CEO leads the organisation’s day-to-day operations and is responsible for delivering its strategy, goals and performance.
They manage the executive team, allocate resources and make key operational and business decisions under delegation from the Board.
The CEO is answerable to the Board and provides leadership to staff while representing the organisation to stakeholders and the wider community.

How should the Chair-CEO relationship work?

The Chair and CEO should work as partners with open communication, mutual respect and a shared commitment to progressing the organisation’s Purpose, Vision, Mission and Strategy.
The Chair provides guidance, support and accountability, while the CEO leads the organisation’s operations and implementation of the Strategy.
A strong Chair-CEO relationship is based on trust, and balances support with constructive challenge, maintaining clear boundaries between oversight and management.

What makes an effective Board Chair?

An effective Board Chair is someone who can provide strong leadership with integrity, good judgement, critical thinking and a clear focus on the organisation’s Purpose and long-term success.
They can facilitate productive meetings, encourage diverse perspectives, build consensus and help the Board make well-informed decisions.
They foster a culture of trust, collaboration and accountability, while maintaining a constructive and effective relationship with the CEO.

What makes an effective CEO?

An effective CEO is someone who is able to convey a clear sense of organisational Purpose and Strategy, who can provide fair and compassionate leadership, and who has the ability to turn Plans into results, while guiding the organisation through both good and difficult times.
They build strong and effective teams, communicate well with all manner of stakeholders, make sound decisions, and foster a positive organisational culture.
They also demonstrate integrity and accountability, while working constructively with the Board and others to achieve the organisation’s long-term success.

What happens in a support session?

Support sessions are as individual as the people I work with.
Prior to your session I will get you to fill out a questionnaire to tell me about your current needs, challenges and any questions you may want to discuss during our upcoming session.
During the session we use your answers to the questionnaire (and anything that has come up since you completed it) to guide our conversation.

How do you help beyond the sessions themselves?

I tell people to think of it as ‘Megan in my pocket!’
If you have a problem you need my help to work through between our sessions, I am only a phone call away.
(You might just need to leave me a message some days and I’ll call you back ASAP).

Who is this support best suited to?

I have supported very experienced people, as well as first-time CEOs and those new to the role of Chair.
Given that my support is tailored to each individual I work with, it doesn’t matter where you are in your leadership journey – I can still help you with the challenges you are facing.

How long does the support run for?

I work with people in 12-week blocks to ensure we have enough time together to make some impact.
Some people will engage my support long-term and continue for multiple blocks, while others may just want one or two blocks of support.

Can support be delivered Australia-wide?

Most of my support is provided online, so I can work with you anywhere, as long as you have an internet connection.
If for some reason your internet is not working, we can also switch to phone support.
And if I am in your area when we are due to meet, we can meet up in person.

How do I sign up?

Send me an email and we can set up a time to chat and we can go from there.
