I am always on the lookout for funding opportunities for community groups and recently I was made aware of the Grants Only Group Inc (GOG) – a non-profit group of volunteers that was formed in October 2011 in South Gippsland, to encourage, support and assist community groups to access funding.
The group is headed by Chairwoman Wendy Don, and knowing how our local community groups in Murrindindi also often struggle to find funds, I thought I would make contact with Wendy and find out more about GOG, and whether there might be opportunities for groups in Murrindindi Shire.
Wendy explained that the GOG volunteers will search for applicable grants on behalf of a specific group, and once they have found a suitable grant, the volunteers complete the application process on behalf of the group. There is a small fee of about $50 to complete and lodge the application, and if the application is successful GOG charges a further fee of 10% (up to a limit of $400).
(These costs are used to cover ink, paper, equipment and hire of office space).
Once a grant has been awarded, the group is then responsible for administering the grant and any reporting requirements.
Wendy mentioned that GOG has helped groups outside of their own local community and that they would be happy to hear from groups in Murrindindi Shire needing assistance too.
I know how much time and effort goes into grant writing, so I think around $50 + 10% is quite reasonable to cover costs.
